I looked in the basement and there is a cubby hole under it and it does have insulation stuffed in it filling it up. Cold air leaks through the front face vents of the fireplace when not in use its a cold draft coming in the living room on the floor. I am getting a cold draft from the bottom vent top of unit where the fireplace meets the mantle and even the surrounding area where floor meets mantle. We have a superior dvt8 cens direct vent gas fireplace.

I have a gas fireplace that lets cold air into my family room when not in use. It is really bad. The damper inside the chimney just above the firebox or area where a fire is built helps keep cold air birds and animals out when the fireplace is not in use. The logs connect to a gas supply line at the side of the fireplace and run on either natural gas or propane.

In the winter alberta we get huge drafts coming in the grills of our gas fireplace insert. Cold air coming in from bottom underneath of gas fireplace insert the previous owner had a contractor put in a gas insert. It s a new model about a year old with a vent to the outside. The only place the cold air is coming in from is from the vent on the back that opens up directly to the outside of the house.

Thanks for the reply i have read them all. From the outside there is a fresh air intake on the chimney and there is a metal chimney exiting the top of the old stucco chimney. How can i minimize the cold draft from coming in when the fireplace in not in use. While gas logs typically function properly for years like all gas appliances they can develop leaks.

Hi i have a heatilator ec36 woodburning fireplace installed in a new my house in 2003. Is there some insulation that can be fill in to stop the cold draft i also have a outdoor. My gas line comes up from the basement as well. Pilot light is lit.

It has a gas direct vent fireplace installed in a bump out on the 1st floor in the living room. Cold air bellows in from the bottom vent in the winter. Bought new construction colonial house 2007. Gas fireplace logs provide a mess free way to enjoy a warm blazing fire on a cold winter night.

Then there is a constant flow of cold air coming out of the vents above and below mostly below the glass. This family room addition is always colder than the rest of the house which surprised me because in the summer the air conditioning central air fed through same floor registers duct as the gas furnace heat was excellent.
